Kidwellite with Beraunite
Kidwellite with Beraunite
A very nice kidwellite with beraunite from the Coon Creek Mine, in Polk Co., Arkansas. This specimen was collected by Al Kidwell, who first discovered the species in Montgomery County in the 1970s. Kidwellite is a very rare phosphate found in the novaculite deposits of the Quachita Mountains in Arkansas, as well as numerous other localities across the world. This fine thumbnail features a single, olive green kidwellite sphere that has formed on a bit of matrix with dark burgundy crystals of beraunite. The kidwellite has a black line of what is likely goethite that creates a "mouth"... I call this piece the "grumpy Pac-Man". The kidwellite is huge for an isolated single botryoid, measuring 0.9 cm! It is the finest kidwellite thumbnail that I have seen personally.
