Wavellite
Wavellite
A fine wavellite from old finds at Dug Hill, near Avant, in Garland Co., Arkansas. This specimen features numerous green wavellite spheres that have formed on a bit of matrix. The contrast between the greenish wavellite and the yellowish matrix is striking. The arrangement of the wavellite on the matrix is very appealing, with several bots being isolated, while others have grown together but still show their shape well. Two of the botryoids exhibit twinning as well. The specimen is in good condition with the only damage worth mentioning being two small broken spheres near the edges - the cool thing about wavellite is that these "damaged" spheres actually add to the specimen in my opinion, allowing you to see the radial sprays of the actual wavellite crystals that make up the spherical aggregates. This piece hails from the collection of Marty Zinn, long time collector of fine minerals and show promotor in Tucson for many years. It comes with a custom acrylic base - milled and engraved in house by our master base maker, Jacob.
