Wavellite
Wavellite
A beautiful blue wavellite from the finds in 2017 at Mauldin Mountain, in Montgomery Co., Arkansas. This find is distinctive from other finds of blue wavellite in the past - whereas most blue wavellite is a late-stage growth over green wavellite spheres, this find is true blue to the core. Broken radial sprays show blue coloration throughout, indicating there never was a green stage. This piece has exceptional color and luster for the find. It shows good botryoids (spheres) and is nestled in a bit of matrix. There are some damaged crystals, but they actually add to the specimen in my opinion - they allow you to see the radial sprays of wavellite crystals that make up the spherical aggregates.
