Wavellite
Wavellite
A beautiful blue wavellite from Mauldin Mountain, in Montgomery Co., Arkansas. This find is distinctive from other finds of blue wavellite - whereas is a late-stage growth over green wavellite spheres, this find is true blue to the core. Broken radial sprays show blue coloration throughout, indicating there never was a green stage. This piece has exceptional color and luster for the find. It shows good botryoids (spheres) that are somewhat isolated on a bit of matrix. There is a second group of wavellite crystals on the backside as well. Unfortunately, there are some damaged crystals, but they actually add to the specimen in my opinion - they allow you to see the radial sprays of wavellite crystals that make up the spherical aggregates.
